The role

This is first and foremost an engineering leadership role. You will build and lead Sycamore’s India engineering organization and be accountable for its people, technical direction, execution, and production outcomes: organization design, hiring, leadership development, technical strategy, architecture quality, planning, delivery, and the operating standards that let several teams move quickly without lowering the bar. You will stay close enough to designs, systems, and incidents to make sound technical calls and coach senior engineers.

You will also be a senior leader with customers and in the India market, helping identify the right enterprise problems, earning executive and technical trust, and keeping major deployments focused on measurable outcomes. That responsibility is built on the engineering organization you lead, not a substitute for it. India is not a delivery outpost; it is a core engineering center with shared ownership of Sycamore’s product and platform.

What you will do

Develop engineering managers and senior individual contributors through direct feedback, technical coaching, delegation, and increasing scopes of ownership.
Remain an active technical leader through architecture reviews, production-readiness decisions, incident learning, roadmap tradeoffs, and hands-on investigation when the situation requires it.
Build the operating cadence, communication norms, and culture that make India an integrated part of one global engineering-led company.
Establish a healthy balance between speed and durability, knowing when to prototype, when to harden, when to simplify, and when to stop work that will not compound.
Maintain an honest view of engineering capacity, hiring, delivery health, strategic accounts, and expected revenue; make tradeoffs early when these compete.
Help shape Sycamore’s enterprise go-to-market in India through technical credibility, strong references, repeatable deployment patterns, and clear judgment about where the company should invest.
Represent the India engineering site with candidates, customers, partners, and the broader technology ecosystem.

The technical environment

Sycamore’s product spans enterprise applications, agent runtimes, model and tool orchestration, connectors, memory, human approvals, durable workflows, multi-tenant data systems, Kubernetes-based serving, identity, networking, deployment, observability, and recovery.

Our engineers work across TypeScript and React product surfaces, Python and Go services, PostgreSQL, workflow systems, protocol-based integrations, cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, and modern delivery and observability tooling.

You do not need to be the deepest expert in every layer or to have used our exact stack. This is not an individual-contributor role, but it is a technical one: we expect you to reason credibly about architecture, distributed systems, security, data, reliability, and production behavior, read designs, lead difficult technical reviews, know when to involve the engineer closest to the system, and retain enough depth to earn the trust of exceptional engineers.

What we are looking for

10-15 years of experience rooted in software engineering, including meaningful experience leading engineering teams and leaders. We will make exceptions for exceptional people in either direction.
Strong technical depth and evidence of leading consequential software from ambiguous problem through architecture, implementation, launch, and production operation.
Experience hiring, developing, and retaining excellent engineers, managers, and senior technical leaders in an environment with high ambiguity and broad ownership.
The ability to set technical direction across multiple teams while preserving clear ownership and respecting the judgment of engineers closest to each system.
Evidence of improving engineering quality, delivery predictability, system reliability, and organizational capability, not simply increasing team size or process.
Strong operating discipline across hiring, planning, prioritization, release readiness, escalation management, customer health, and cross-functional communication.
Familiarity with the Indian technology and talent ecosystem and the practical realities of building a senior engineering organization in Bengaluru.
AI-native. You use modern AI systems and coding agents as a force multiplier while maintaining clear ownership of decisions, quality, and outcomes.
Comfort being both strategic and close to the work: setting multi-year direction while still engaging deeply in an architecture, organizational problem, or customer escalation.
